The People: Jasmine

What is your role at Re:Fuel?

I’m Re:Fuel’s new Events Coordinator. Meaning I help put together and create new and exciting events for all petrolheads to enjoy. I also work with the Marketing team to run the social media accounts for Moonshine. Which if you don’t know is an amazing car detailing company which specialises in sustainability and quality. I won’t dive too much into that though, everything you need is over on the Moonshine website. I am super excited to work with such a fast-growing business and find many ways to grow and interact with our amazing audience.

How did you get involved with Re:Fuel?

After losing my job due to COVID I became aware of the Kickstart scheme through my work coach and was sent the job specifications that way. I’d never heard of Re:Fuel before this (shame on me) but it instantly piqued my interest and I knew I had to apply straight away! This led to me having the amazing opportunity to design some example social media posts for both Re:Fuel and Moonshine. Which led to Dan offering me the position, which I am eternally grateful for and I’m now writing this post!

What’s your favourite thing about Re:Fuel?

This is definitely a hard one to answer. It would have be the fact that they are all about being inclusive with such amazing values. Personally I don’t know a lot about cars in general and I have never been made to feel like less of a person because of this. They have given me the opportunity to learn and grow with the business. So this to me had to be my number one favourite thing about Re:Fuel.

What were you doing before Re:Fuel?

Before Re:Fuel I worked as a Bar Manager in a local pub and restaurant based in Upton called the Lowtrow Cross Inn, which I did enjoy and it gave me the chance to polish my social skills and meet new people from all walks of life, but ultimately I knew that is wasn’t something I could see myself doing for the rest of my life. I’ve always loved working in the public sector and I love meeting new people and experiencing new things. So working with Re:Fuel will be a great way for me to do exactly that.

Tell us about your home life!

I live in a very small village seemingly in the middle of nowhere along the border of Devon and Somerset. I currently live with my parents and younger brother. We also have a Labrador called Hendrix who loves the outdoors, so living in an area with loads of open fields is ideal!

What do you do when you’re not working?

When I’m at home the main thing I love to do the most is creating and improving my artwork. I’ve always loved to draw and I mainly work with ink pen and paper. I also design tattoos for people, so check out my Instagram @jazziesartandprints if you’re interested in that! I also play video games where possible. I’m currently working my way through Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix on my PlayStation 3. I also try to read as much as possible. I watch anime almost every weekend, my favourite at the moment is My Hero Academia.

What car do you drive?

I drive a 2004 Ford Fusion (which isn’t very exciting), as its only my second car just to get me from A to B at the moment. But I’ve always loved and dreamt about owning a 1967 Chevrolet Impala. Realistically speaking a Nissan 305z is more of an attainable goal for the moment.

What’s your favourite drive?

It has to be along Blue Anchor Bay. I love the beach and I used to drive along this road with my Grandparents maybe as often as 5-10 times each summer when I was younger so it will always be my favourite because of the memories it holds.

If you could go anywhere, where would it be?

I would love to travel everywhere in the world but to narrow it down Japan would definitely be in my top five places to visit. Their deep and rich history and culture fascinates me the most. My first stop would definitely be Kyoto to visit the beautiful zen gardens and shrines.

Tell us something we don’t know about you.

I’m currently in the process of learning British Sign Language and Japanese, and I just about know the basics of both at the moment. I also love cooking.

Why Exeter?

As someone who has lived rurally for over 7 years I feel like I’ve lost connection with ‘the outside world’ for lack of a better term, and I love working with people so it’s the ideal place to be for anyone who loves great scenery and the opportunity to meet extraordinary people!

What are you working on right now?

I’m currently helping coordinate some events for Re:Fuel surrounding some exciting upcoming event weekends, and thinking about new ways to grow the Moonshine audience through new forms of social media such as TikTok (which is @get_moonshine, just in case you wanted to give it a follow). Personally I’m working on improving my knowledge surrounding social media and cars in general in order to connect more with the work I enjoy doing.
